Raúl 'Tala' Rangel marks three years since his Liga MX debut for Guadalajara Chivas, solidifying his status as the undisputed starting goalkeeper for both club and country. The shot-stopper made his first appearance on October 1, 2023, in a 1-1 draw against Toluca at Estadio Nemesio Diez, making five saves and completing 16 accurate passes.
Rangel suffered a facial fracture just one week after his debut, sidelining him temporarily. Since then, he has amassed 112 official appearances for Chivas, including 99 in Liga MX, nine in the Leagues Cup, and four in Concacaf competitions. He has recorded 37 clean sheets for the club, 35 of them in domestic league play.
The goalkeeper was a key figure in the historic 771-minute streak without conceding a goal at home during the Apertura 2024, breaking the club's previous record set in 1972. "Here's to many more successes defending the goal for Chivas and the Mexico National Team!", Rangel said.
At international level, the Chivas keeper has earned 22 caps for Mexico, keeping 13 clean sheets. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Rangel recorded four shutouts in five matches.
Rangel's reliability comes as Guadalajara Chivas sit third in Liga MX with 18 points from 10 games. The team looks to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Querétaro when they face Atlas away on October 11. Chivas' recent form shows two wins, two draws, and one loss from their last five outings.
Fans can check the full team schedule on our fixtures page and review the current roster on the squad section. With Rangel between the posts, Chivas enters the final stretch of the season just two points behind leaders Toluca.
