Former Guadalajara Chivas coach Efraín Flores has analyzed the 2-2 draw with América in the Clásico Nacional, a result that keeps the team second in Liga MX with 18 points.
Flores explained that the red-and-white side was superior in general terms across the 90 minutes. "Me parece que Chivas fue mejor en términos generales durante los 90 minutos," the strategist stated. He noted the team had better ball possession, a more solid tactical setup, and created more chances from the start.
Yet the coach acknowledged a key mistake. Chivas, who had taken a 2-0 lead through goals from Bryan González and an own goal, failed to manage the advantage. Flores identified Miguel Borja's bicycle kick goal as the turning point that restored América's confidence and exploited a moment of confusion in the defense. He also considered Bryan González's substitution decisive, as it allowed the rival to find more space on the right flank.
"Sobre todo jugando en el Azteca, no hay que dejarlo vivir. Hay que liquidar los partidos cuando tienes la oportunidad," Flores warned. He stressed that a third goal was missing to control the match differently and that this lesson is critical ahead of the upcoming Liguilla playoffs.
The draw on September 20 leaves Guadalajara Chivas with a record of five wins, three draws, and just one loss in nine matchdays. The team is unbeaten in its last five outings, with three wins and two draws. Next up is a clash against Querétaro, who will visit the Estadio Akron this Saturday, September 26. The opponent sits fifth in the table, making it another tough test in the final stretch of the regular season.
Despite the critique, Flores acknowledged the good football shown by the team under Gabriel Milito. The next challenge is in sight, and fans can check the full schedule on our fixtures page and the updated table on standings.
