Guadalajara Chivas let a clear victory slip away in the Clásico Nacional, drawing 2-2 with Club América on Tuesday. Fernando Gago's side, leading 2-0 at halftime, saw their rivals come back with two second-half goals from Miguel Borja.
Bryan González opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a precise header from an Omar Govea cross. The advantage doubled in first-half stoppage time when a Ricardo Marín shot deflected off Miguel Vázquez for an own goal. With that 2-0 lead, Chivas seemed headed for a regular-phase Clásico win they hadn't achieved in two years.
The dynamic shifted after Borja came on for América. The striker scored with a bicycle kick in the 71st minute and, just three minutes later, completed the comeback with a right-footed finish assisted by Henry Martín. Goalkeeper Raúl Rangel, who had gone over an hour without being tested, could not stop either shot.
The draw leaves Chivas in second place in Liga MX, with 18 points from nine games. They are just one point behind leaders Toluca. The team is on a five-match unbeaten run, with three wins and two draws.
Their next fixture is at home against fifth-placed Querétaro this Saturday. A win would be vital to maintain pressure at the top of the table. The full schedule for the final stretch of the Apertura 2026 is available on our fixtures page.
