Rafael Márquez, the new head coach of the Mexican national team, conducted a working visit to Club Deportivo Guadalajara at their Verde Valle facilities. The meeting took place this Wednesday and served as a first direct contact with the red-and-white team that currently sits second in Liga MX.
The Mexican national team delegation, led by Márquez, included Duilio Davino, director of national teams, and Andrés Lillini, director of youth national teams. For Chivas, the meeting was led by sporting director Alejandro Manzo, accompanied by executives Jesús Sánchez and Javier Mier. Manager Gabriel Milito was the central figure on Chivas' side. Márquez and Milito, who were teammates at FC Barcelona, held a private conversation and posed for a photograph that quickly circulated on social media. As a courtesy gesture, Márquez received a personalized Chivas jersey with his name, while Milito was given one from the Mexican national team.
The agenda began on Tuesday with Rafael Márquez's arrival in Guadalajara and a visit to the AGA Academy. The following day, the Tri technical team moved to Verde Valle. There, from the red-and-white executive area, they observed the first team's training session. Several players approached to exchange words with the legendary Mexican defender. Club owner Amaury Vergara was not present at the meeting. Before leaving, the national team staff held a final meeting with Chivas executives and departed the complex without making statements to the press.
The visit occurs at a time of strong form for the Sacred Flock. Milito's team is unbeaten in their last five league matches, with three wins and two draws. Their latest result was a convincing 0-3 victory over Atlético San Luis on September 5th. In the overall table, Chivas have 14 points from 4 wins, 2 draws, and just one loss in seven matches. They have scored 12 goals and conceded only 6, giving them a +6 goal difference. They are just two points behind the leader, Club América. Detailed championship information is available on our standings page.
The club's immediate focus is on the next Liga MX matchday. Chivas will host UNAM Pumas on September 14th at the Estadio Akron. The university team arrives in 12th place in the table, representing an opportunity for the Flock to continue their positive streak and pressure the top. The full schedule of fixtures can be checked in our fixtures section. Márquez's visit highlights the importance of Chivas players in the national team project, a link strengthened by this type of exchange in the middle of the season.
