Chivas edges Juárez in stoppage time after dominant but wasteful display
Guadalajara Chivas secured a dramatic 1-0 win over Bravos de Juárez at Estadio Akron, but manager Gabriel Milito admitted the team still has work to do. Despite controlling the game, the red-and-whites struggled to convert chances until the dying minutes. The victory marks Chivas' first of the season, though they remain 18th in Liga MX with 0 points (0W-0D-1L) after 1 game, having scored 0 goals and conceded 2 (-2 goal difference).
What did Milito say about the match?
Milito praised his side’s dominance but acknowledged their lack of finishing. "We controlled the game but lacked efficiency in the final third. That happens in football. I’m happy with the overall performance and how we won at the end," said the coach.
The manager also highlighted his team’s attacking intent from the first minute, though he noted defensive risks in transitions. "The team played well. The circumstances of the game are what they are, but I value the attitude," he added.
How is the team doing after the win?
Despite the victory, Chivas remains 6 points behind league leaders Club Tijuana and must improve to climb the table. Milito believes more training time will help the team reach its peak, especially for players returning from the Mexican National Team, who are still adjusting.
"Those who were with the National Team have only been back for three weeks. It’s a big physical and mental toll, but we have confidence in them," said Milito, who also emphasized the squad’s internal competition and the quality of substitutes.
What’s next for Chivas?
Guadalajara Chivas will face Puebla (9th in the standings) away on August 1. With a recent form of 1W-0D-2L (WLL), the team aims to stabilize and move away from the relegation zone.
