Armando “La Hormiga” González has established himself as the new benchmark for Guadalajara Chivas exports to European football. The forward leads the list with a deal reported at 8.6 million euros, approximately 10 million dollars, according to Transfermarkt, heading to Olympiacos in Greece. This move marks a turning point after the long reign of Javier “Chicharito” Hernández as the club's most significant sale to the Old Continent.
Who makes up the top three sales? n'La Hormiga's' transfer surpasses the figure that kept Chicharito at the top for years, when he left Chivas in 2010 to join Manchester United. That operation for Hernández was estimated at 7.5 million euros (8.8 million dollars), although various sources at the time handled slightly higher figures exceeding eight million euros. The forward not only broke records but was the first Mexican to play for the English side, leaving a deep mark in Europe.
In the third historical spot stands Carlos Salcedo. The defender was signed permanently by Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018, following a year on loan at the German club. The final deal was settled at 5 million euros (5.8 million dollars). The Bundesliga side exercised the purchase option on the player who had been initially signed for one year with the possibility of staying.
Marco Fabián and Mateo Chávez The fourth place belongs to Marco Fabián, who in 2016 made the definitive leap to the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt. The midfielder emerged from the Chivas academy and transferred for around 3.7 million euros (4.3 million dollars). Fabián arrived in Germany after living a second stint with Chivas, following a brief spell at Cruz Azul, becoming one of the Mexicans with the greatest presence in German football.
Finally, the fifth name is Mateo Chávez, transferred to AZ Alkmaar in 2025 for 2 million euros (2.3 million dollars). The young player is one of the great gems from Guadalajara who emigrated seeking consolidation. He was projected as a right-back and was a starter primarily at the beginning of the current 2026-27 season. Currently, Guadalajara Chivas maintains a high level in the competition, ranking 4th in Liga MX with 10 points after 5 games, following a recent 5-2 victory against Club Tijuana on 2026-08-22.
